Firstly...

After having originally chosen 'Talent: Nature vs Nuture' as our basis of our documentary, we then wanted to think about what way we would decide to make the documentary. We researched into Channel 4 'Dispatches' documentaries and got ideas from these as to how we wanted our documentary to look.
Further planning was happening, and more research was being done into our 'Nature vs Nurture' battle. We realised that all the teenagers we would be interviewing were attending a private school. This then triggered the idea of focusing our documentary on the private and state sectors of education, and the ongoing debate about whether private schools really do give a head start in life to the children who attend them. As this interested both Matt and I, we decided to focus our documentary on this, as we had good resources, having teachers and friends who have both taught at or attended both sector schools.
For more research, we both watched a dvd that was released in The Guardian newspaper that was precisely focused on what we both wanted to achieve through our documentary. This was to discuss and debate the ways in which private schools may or may not give a head start in life, we wanted to talk about what opportunities and flexibility the schools give and what the teachers feel are the differences between the two schools, and through this I think we made a contribution towards this debate in our 5 minute documentary.
So, having our topic decided, we started to write up on the history of documentaries, the synopsis and the brief of our documentary.
